Exponential utility indifference valuation in two Brownian settings with stochastic correlation

چکیده
We study the exponential utility indifference valuation of a contingent claim B in an incomplete market driven by two Brownian motions. The claim depends on a nontradable asset stochastically correlated with the traded asset available for hedging. We use martingale arguments to provide upper and lower bounds, in terms of bounds on the correlation, for the value V B of the exponential utility maximization problem with the claim B as random endowment. This yields an explicit formula for the indifference value b of B at any time, even with a fairly general stochastic correlation. Earlier results with constant correlation are recovered and extended. The reason why all this works is that after a transformation to the minimal martingale measure, the value V B enjoys a monotonicity property in the correlation between tradable and nontradable asset.

Exponential utility indifference valuation in a general semimartingale model
We study the exponential utility indifference valuation of a contingent claim H when asset prices are given by a general semimartingale S. Under mild assumptions on H and S, we prove that a no-arbitrage type condition is fulfilled if and only if H has a certain representation. In this case, the indifference value can be written in terms of processes from that representation, which is useful in ...
متن کاملConvexity bounds for BSDE solutions, with applications to indifference valuation
We consider backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs) with a particular quadratic generator and study the behaviour of their solutions when the probability measure is changed, the filtration is shrunk, or the underlying probability space is transformed. Our main results are upper bounds for the solutions of the original BSDEs in terms of solutions to other BSDEs which are easier to sol...
متن کاملBounded Solutions to Backward Sde’s with Jumps for Utility Optimization and Indifference Hedging
We prove results on bounded solutions to backward stochastic equations driven by random measures. Those bounded BSDE solutions are then applied to solve different stochastic optimization problems with exponential utility in models where the underlying filtration is noncontinuous. This includes results on portfolio optimization under an additional liability and on dynamic utility indifference va...
متن کاملConvergence results for the indifference value based on the stability of BSDEs
We study the exponential utility indifference value h for a contingent claim H in an incomplete market driven by two Brownian motions. The claim H depends on a nontradable asset variably correlated with the traded asset available for hedging. We provide an explicit sequence that converges to h, complementing the structural results for h known from the literature. Our study is based on a converg...
متن کاملRational Hedging and Valuation with Utility-Based Preferences
In this thesis, we study stochastic optimization problems in which concave functionals are maximized on spaces of stochastic integrals. Such problems arise in mathematical finance for a risk-averse investor who is faced with valuation, hedging, and optimal investment problems in incomplete financial markets. We are mainly concerned with utility-based methods for the valuation and hedging of non...
